A routine traffic patrol in Dorchester led to an arrest on drug-related charges this past Friday, as reported by the Boston Police Department. Lawrence Chaney, a 38-year-old Dorchester resident, was apprehended by officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) around 5:29 PM at the intersection of Washington Street and Park Street. Officers initially engaged due to an obscured license plate cover on the vehicle operated by Chaney.
Upon the traffic stop, the officers from the marked cruiser were able to glimpse the registration, confirming the vehicle's status as stolen. When officers made contact, they instructed Chaney to exit the vehicle. During the interaction, police discovered seventeen plastic bags of crack cocaine tucked inside the suspect’s fanny pack. The Boston Police Department details that Chaney now faces charges, including Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B, and Receiving Stolen Property.
Chaney's arrest has prompted his expected arraignment in Dorchester District Court. The incident underscores ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to address drug distribution within community neighborhoods. The charges reflect a grave concern with narcotics and their potential proliferation on the streets of Boston—one that law enforcement continues to tackle amidst broader discussions on crime and community impact.
