Last Saturday morning, San Mateo Police Department officers were called to the Bridgepointe Parkway Starbucks parking lot, where a black Honda Civic was embedded in a concrete wall. According to the San Mateo Police Department's Facebook page, individuals were trapped inside the car when the Foster City Police Department, which initially received the call, arrived at approximately 4:40 a.m.
The San Mateo Fire Department and AMR were summoned, finding the driver already out of the vehicle, his condition suggestive of head and neck injuries. At the same time, the passenger was extracted from the car and transported to the hospital for treatment.
The driver admitted to officers at the hospital that before the incident, he indulged in alcoholic beverages, which led to his losing consciousness behind the wheel. The driver, as if emerging from a fog, only recalls awakening post-crash to the chaos of the collision scene. Testing revealed the driver's blood alcohol content to still be over the limit, with results of .051%BAC and .052%BAC, despite being tested three hours after the accident occurred.
After these findings and a blood draw warrant authorized and executed, the driver was brought into custody and booked at the SMCO Jail.
