Yesterday, an early morning crash on I-285 westbound near Ashford Dunwoody Road resulted in one fatality and two injuries, according to officials. The Dunwoody Police Department reported that officers were called to the scene at approximately 3:48 a.m. where they discovered a collision involving two vehicles, with the occupants of one vehicle being trapped inside.
The accident occurred as a white Scion was attempting to change lanes towards the GA 400 exit ramp, just as a red F-250 entered the westbound lanes of I-285 from Ashford Dunwoody Road. This maneuver led to the vehicles colliding at the bottom of the entrance ramp. Dekalb Fire personnel were required to extricate the driver and passenger from the significantly damaged Scion. Unfortunately, the 33-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has yet to be released, pending family notification by the Dekalb Medical Examiner’s Office, which has taken custody of the victim.
According to a statement obtained by Dunwoody Police, the driver of the Scion was transported to North Fulton Hospital and is currently in stable condition. The driver of the F-250 suffered non-life-threatening injuries but did not require hospitalization. The area around the crash site was closed for several hours as investigators worked to clear the scene and gather evidence.
