Tragedy struck last Sunday night on Interstate 10 near Airway when a local man lost his life in a violent traffic incident that has since become the city's 44th traffic fatality of the year. The Special Traffic Investigation Unit of El Paso has been diligently working to unravel the events that led to the fatal accident involving a motorcycle and multiple vehicles.
The initial investigation has disclosed that the victim, identified as Cuellar, was eastbound on Interstate 10 when he was tragically dislodged from his motorcycle. In the chaos that followed, Cuellar was struck by an unidentified semi-truck which reportedly continued to drive east, failing to stop at the scene, according to the City of El Paso.
After the initial impact, Cuellar was further hit by a 2023 Kia, a 2023 Ford, a 2006 Hyundai, and a 2005 Honda. The drivers of these vehicles remained at the site of the accident, likely to aid and cooperate with law enforcement. Unfortunately, Cuellar succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities are seeking to swiftly identify the semi-truck involved in the incident and are appealing to any witnesses to come forward with information. In an unnerving testament to the violence of the crash, Cuellar's motorcycle managed to continue upright for several hundred feet before it struck a 1998 Mercedes, compounding the complex scene that law enforcement had to confront.
