An unfortunate tragedy struck in DeKalb County as a house fire claimed the life of an elderly woman on Thursday evening. The DeKalb fire department was summoned to a blaze that erupted on the 1000 block of Standard Drive in Brookhaven, with flames vigorously consuming the second floor of a residence.
According to WSB-TV, despite the rapid response and attempts to combat the fire, which reportedly broke out just after 8:30 p.m., emergency personnel faced an insurmountable challenge. A woman whose identity remains undisclosed was trapped inside and could not be rescued. As detailed in an interview by Capt. Jaeson Daniels, a man along with two dogs managed to escape and are said to be in stable condition. The woman was described as elderly by Daniels.
The circumstances surrounding the incendiary episode continue to be examined, with no immediate cause identified. Fire investigators are dissecting every possible lead to ascertain what may have sparked such a destructive and fatal event. According to the report by FOX 5 Atlanta, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
