An Enid man has been arrested by local police in connection with a 2023 homicide, authorities confirmed on Thursday. Juan Daniel Resendiz, aged 34, has been charged with second-degree murder following the death of Brooklyn Smith whom he previously claimed had died by suicide, as reported by KFOR.
Resendiz had originally contacted police on May 4, 2023, to report that Smith had shot herself in the head at his residence in the 800 block of E. Poplar Ave, but developments in the investigation have led to his recent arrest. Resendiz was booked into the Garfield County Detention Facility, with a bond set at $250,000, this information follows the statements of the Enid Police Department provided to OKC FOX.
The investigation into Smith's death initially left many questions unanswered after the medical examiner's office ruled the cause of death as "unknown." However, on September 5, detectives received new information pointing to Resendiz's involvement in the shooting that was not disclosed, according to a news release cited by KOCO.
Subsequent inquiries have allowed investigators to gather enough probable cause to secure a warrant for the arrest of Juan Daniel Resendiz, signaling a turning point in a case that had stood at an impasse for over a year, and online records now reflect the charge of second-degree murder that has been levied against him, as confirmed by police and published in the KOCO report.
