A tragic shooting claimed the life of a 30-year-old man named Devon Beal on Monday afternoon in the Chatham neighborhood, marking yet another instance of violence gripping Chicago's streets. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Beal was behind the wheel on the 7900 block of South Lafayette Avenue when he was fatally shot at approximately 4:30 p.m.
Driving westbound on 79th Street, Beal's car became a fatal trap when shots were fired from a sedan also traveling in the same direction. He was struck multiple times by the gunfire, which led his vehicle to a crashing halt near the intersection of 79th Street and Lafayette Avenue, FOX 32 Chicago reported.
The attack left Beal with multiple wounds to his head and body. EMTs rushed him to the University of Chicago Hospital to save his life. Despite their efforts, Devon Beal was pronounced dead, leaving the community to grapple with the repercussions of this violent act.
