A man with a history of felony charges was arrested last Saturday morning after a police pursuit in Wyandotte. The chase began when an officer, during a traffic stop at around 1:30 a.m., ordered the man out of his vehicle, leading to the man accelerating away, losing control, and crashing his vehicle on Fort Street, as per ClickOnDetroit.
Bodycam and dashboard camera footage released shows the suspect attempting to flee on foot post-crash, before being subdued by Officer Cox using a taser. A new graduate of the field training program this July, Officer Cox was commended for handling the incident with a suspect wanted on multiple charges, including drug possession and felony assault, detailed on the Wyandotte Police Department's Facebook page.
Upon searching the vehicle, authorities found heroin, crack cocaine, and crystal methamphetamine. The driver's troubled past with the law, dating back to 2004, includes charges ranging from weapons possession in a school zone to felony drug possession as recently as 2022. The Wyandotte Police Department took the moment to praise Officer Cox for his composure during the incident, passing the unexpected real-world test "A+," as mentioned in the police department's social media post.
