Ford Motor Company has unveiled an offer for new EV buyers that includes a free home charger along with complimentary installation. The automaker's new initiative started on Tuesday and will run until the end of this year, also granting customers with 24/7 support for EV-related inquiries, as per Detroit Free Press.
According to WXYZ, Ford's CEO Jim Farley outlined the effort, saying the company wants to take the guesswork out of installation including costs, in order to save consumers time and money by allowing them to "fill up" at home, Farley emphasizes the convenience and reduced stress that comes with a home charging solution, with the free charger and installation service aiming to address range anxiety among potential EV customers despite Ford's addition of its EVs to the Tesla Supercharger network with an adapter.
The promotion called Ford Power Promise, according to PCMag, includes the Ford Charge Station Pro valued at $1,310, which supports advanced power management and bi-directional charging where the vehicle can also power a home as a backup generator. Ford is partnering with Qmerit for the installation process, although it should be noted the offer only covers standard installation, limitations being up to 60 amps of power and 80 feet of wiring, homeowners on the hook for panel upgrade costs should their residence need one.
The Dearborn-based automaker has demonstrated a proactive stance in mitigating the common concerns prospective EV buyers have regarding range, charging infrastructure, and battery life, as Martin Delonis, senior manager of strategy for model e (Ford's EV business), highlighted in an interview with the Detroit Free Press, "These aren't concerns of owners. This tells us that there is tremendous perception gap to bridge, and shoppers need help crossing it." Ford hopes the new measures will bridge the perception gap and demonstrate the company's commitment to facilitating a smoother transition to electric for its customers.
