A former teacher from Toombs County has been taken into custody following a Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) probe into allegations of sexual misconduct. According to the official GBI press release, Chasity Cheyenne Knight, age 25, was arrested on Tuesday, August 27, and is facing charges of Improper Sexual Contact by Employee, Agent, or Foster Parent; Consent Not a Defense.
The GBI took action after being requested by the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, August 19, to assist with an active investigation concerning a teacher’s inappropriate relationship with a student. It is alleged that the relationship between Knight and the student occurred in January during her employment as an educator in the Toombs County School District.
Following the arrest, Knight was booked into the Toombs County Detention Center. The case is poised to be presented to the Middle Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution once the investigators conclude their inquiries. This incident adds to a troubling pattern of school district employees crossing boundaries that society has long deemed sacrosanct.
The authorities urge anyone who might have relevant information to come forward and contact the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Eastman at 478-374-6988.
