Fort Lauderdale Embarks on Flood Mitigation Project, SE 9th Avenue Faces Construction ActivitySource: Google Street View

Starting Monday, September 9, the city joins with Southeastern Engineering Contractors in a bid to tackle the local flooding problem. The project focuses on enhancing the stormwater system between the Tarpon River and Ponce de Leon Drive, in the Rio Vista neighborhood. It includes replacing an old stormwater pipe with a new 24-inch pipe, along with road repairs to better manage Florida's heavy rains.

The progress turn from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. While the scheduled project expected to finish by late October, however, courtesy of the unpredictable Florida storms could delay the work. The City of Fort Lauderdale warns that drivers should keep their eyes peeled for lane closures especially on southbound SE 9th Avenue.

Crews pledging to coordinate before they start to work. "We apologize in advance for any inconvenience and thank our neighbors for their patience during construction," reads a snippet from the city's release before the construction start.

Navigating through construction zones requires extra caution, so the "Drive with Caution" signs are the cue to slow down and keep the neighborhood construction workers safe. For those living in the midst of the impending cacophony and chaos or just passing through, the city begs a dollop of patience.
