A confrontation between a man and local law enforcement in Coweta County has led to a GBI investigation following an officer-involved shooting. On Thursday night, deputies responded to a domestic dispute on Hawthorne Drive and encountered 42-year-old Ronald West, who subsequently was injured when a deputy discharged their weapon during the altercation.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) release, deputies had been called to the scene for a domestic situation between West and his parents. The situation escalated when West, allegedly armed with an object, threatened violence against the attending officers and tried to stab one of them by charging at the deputy's vest with the object.

Preliminary findings suggest that in the course of retreating from West, one of the deputies shot him. After administering first aid, deputies had West transported to a local hospital for his injuries. It was confirmed by the Sheriff’s Office that no deputies incurred any injuries during the incident.

The ongoing independent GBI investigation will further examine the details surrounding this incident. The Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office will review the case file upon completion. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation encourages anyone with knowledge pertaining to the case to come forward, providing contact details for their regional investigative office and avenues for anonymous tipping. West's current condition has not been released.
