The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been called to look deeply into the death of Calvin Hart Jr., a 39-year-old man from Thomson. According to a press release from the GBI's official website, the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI's assistance after Hart was found with gunshot wounds in a home on the 1200 block of Royal Street in Thomson. He was pronounced dead at the scene early Friday morning.
Responding to a call regarding the shooting at about 5:15 a.m. on September 13, 2024, deputies discovered Hart. An autopsy is to be conducted by the GBI Medical Examiner at their Crime Lab in Decatur, Georgia. As of now, the authorities have yet to make any arrests in connection with the ongoing investigation.
The GBI is urging the public for any information related to the case. Individuals with knowledge on the incident are encouraged to reach out to the GBI regional investigative office in Thomson by phone at 706-595-2575 or to the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office at 706-595-2145. Once the investigation comes to a close, the case file will be turned over to the Toombs Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for consideration of prosecution. The death of Hart adds to a string of incidents across the state that the GBI has been called to thoroughly examine, signaling a possibly increased demand for state-level investigative resources in such serious matters.
