A Gilbert community was left unsettled after police discovered a woman's body in a street early Saturday morning. According to 12News, the Gilbert Police Department responded to reports around 4:51 a.m. about an unresponsive woman lying on the road near Lindsay Road and Melody Drive. The area is known to be just south of Lindsay and Baseline Road intersection.
Upon arrival, officers found the woman deceased. The details surrounding the incident were scarce, but detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division were quick to begin to thoroughly investigate the cause of her death. As of yet, few particulars have come to light regarding the deceased, including her identity, as the investigation remains ongoing.
Residents in the neighborhood have expressed their concerns following the incident. According to a report by Arizona’s Family, neighbor Matthies Leinen described the scene as "eerie" and "very unusual." The discovery prompted police to canvas the area, questioning residents and seeking any surveillance footage that might shed light on the events leading up to the woman's death.
"It kind of puts a little chill on you because you don’t know what’s happening. You don’t know what’s going on when you see that large of a police presence right next to your home," Leinen told Arizona’s Family, indicating the shock felt by many in the community. Neighbors have since been grappling with the sight of crime scene tape and police activity which encroached their doorsteps for hours. Some noted a white car, believed to be associated with the victim, yet the woman and the vehicle were unfamiliar to them. "At the end of the day when you find somebody like that it’s just scary. So, I pray for the family," continued Leinen.
The Gilbert Police Department has not yet confirmed any theories about how the 28-year-old woman's death occurred or whether foul play is suspected. As more details are expected to surface, the investigation actively continues.
