A 17-year-old student was arrested at Gresham High School for bringing a gun onto campus, authorities announced. The teenager was taken into custody on Friday after initially threatening a community member with the firearm. According to OregonLive, the community member believed the student attended Gresham High School and reported the incident to the police.
Following the report, the school's employees were able to locate the student and secure them in an area away from others. "The student was cooperative with staff and police and admitted being armed," Gresham police said in a statement obtained by OregonLive. The student's identity has not been released due to their age. Per the authorities, the case has now been referred to juvenile court.
When officers arrived at the scene, they retrieved the gun without further issue, ensuring no immediate threat to students or faculty remained. "Officers retrieved the gun from the student, who was taken into custody," reported KOIN.com.
