A suspect has been arrested in Gwinnett County after an armed robbery incident involving a motorist trying to change a tire. As reported by the Gwinnett County Police Department, the incident took place near Buford Drive and I-985. A Crime Suppression Detail officer was approached by a motorist, whose uncle was the victim of the gunpoint robbery.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Johnny Roque of Sugar Hill, allegedly asked the victim for a ride, and upon being declined, he placed a gun on the victim's lower back. After directing the victim to the ground near the tree line, the suspect reportedly took an envelope filled with cash before fleeing the scene. Attempting to change his tire, the robbery disrupted what the citizen initiated as a routine maintenance act.
In a swift response, officers formed a perimeter, and a fellow officer from the Crime Suppression Detail located Roque walking near I-985, close to where the armed robbery occurred. The individual was found in possession of a sum of money that matched the amount reported stolen.
Roque was then taken to the Gwinnett County Jail, marking the case's resolution without further incident. Officers later verified the money indeed belonged to the victim, and it was returned. Walking past the victim on the side of the road, the situation took a turn from a mere pedestrian encounter to a felony in action.
