The Gwinnett County Police Department recently took a juvenile into custody following a hoax threat that targeted a local school. The false threat insinuated a shooting at a Gwinnett County school and came to light via a concerning social media post. In accordance with a press release from Gwinnett County Police, School Resource Officers were first to note the alleged menace on September 6.
The police, upon notification, immediately commenced an investigation to verify the credibility of the claim. Several units, including Gwinnett County Police Intelligence Analysts and detectives, alongside their Situational Awareness and Crime Response Center, worked together to rapidly obtain to identify the account holder information and, through investigative methods, pinpoint the juvenile suspect. Their swift and coordinated efforts underline the seriousness with which such threats are taken, striving to ensure safety within academic environments.
After the suspect was identified, he was interviewed by authorities. The suspect allegedly proclaimed the threat was intended as a "hoax," however, the gravity of such actions led to his arrest. He now faces charges of making felony terroristic threats and has been transported to a metro Atlanta Youth Detention Center, as confirmed by Gwinnett County Police.
