
Early Sunday morning in East Las Vegas Valley, a high-speed crash resulted in two deaths and left a third person critically injured. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that a 23-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the scene after their Toyota Corolla lost control and crashed in the parking lot of a Dotty’s on East Sahara Avenue. According to The Las Vegas Review-Journal, the car had been speeding east on Sahara Avenue before hitting a wall and colliding with other vehicles.
The crash sequence began when the driver failed to, successfully navigate a curve and, subsequently, the car barreled into the parking lot. The Metropolitan Police indicated that after striking a wall, the Toyota hit the rear of a Cadillac XT6 and a parked Nissan Altima before it came to rest against a steel railing. “The two deaths mark the 104th and 105 traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year,” the police said in a statement picked up by The Las Vegas Review-Journal.
After the crash, the area was shaken. A third victim, who was in the back seat of the Corolla, was taken to Sunrise Hospital in critical condition. Details about the identity of the deceased have not been publicly released, pending notification of next of kin. Local authorities are still to determine whether impairment was a factor in the crash, as was mentioned by FOX5 Las Vegas. Due to the driver’s death, the standard assessment for impairment could not be undertaken.
