A Hillsboro man sadly passed away following a car crash early yesterday morning, as per reports from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The accident occurred on Sorg Road in Highland County at approximately 12:30 a.m., involving a single vehicle, specifically a 1967 Dodge pickup truck. WLWT reports that the driver veered off the roadway and collided with a grain bin, after which he was ejected from the vehicle.
James W. Hart, 66, of Hillsboro, was identified as the driver who tragically did not survive the crash. The patrol disclosed that Hart was not wearing a seat belt, a detail also noted by Local12 News. After the initial impact, the vehicle continued to strike a nearby barn before coming to a halt. This accident marks a grim reminder of the importance of always wearing a seat belt when driving.
The preliminary reports detail the investigation into what suddenly caused Hart to lose control of his truck. Agencies that responded to the scene included the Highland County Sheriff’s Department, Highland County Coroner’s Office, and Paint Creek LMS. A representative of the Highland County Coroner's Office declared Hart dead at the site, according to a release cited by The Scioto Post.
