Heads up, Holbrook drivers: Prepare for some slowdowns. Starting this Monday, Sept. 23, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is kicking off a pavement improvement project on Business 40, from Crestview Drive to Joy Nevin Avenue. According to the ADOT announcement, the work entails replacing old pavement, adding fresh stripes to the tarmac, and upgrading pedestrian access with 24 new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps.
During the course of these improvements, B-40 (Navajo Boulevard) will be throttled down to one lane in each direction as necessary. If you're planning a commute or just swinging by your favorite local spots, keep in mind that lane restrictions are a possibility as crews labor on the sidewalks. But fear not, business access will remain largely unaffected—with minimal interruptions promised by ADOT. After the day's work is done, restrictions lift, giving back full access in the evenings and over the weekends.
The aim is to cause as little disruption as possible to day-to-day life. ADOT suggests that motorists allow extra travel time and advises them to navigate these changes with care. "Drivers should allow extra travel time and be prepared to slow down, stay alert and merge safely when approaching and traveling through the work zones," as mentioned in the release by ADOT. It's all about getting to your destination without a hitch while these necessary upgrades take place.
All said and done, if everything goes to plan, you can expect the shiny new roadways to be complete by year's end. Until then, patience is a virtue, and letting your foot ease off the gas a bit might not be a bad idea.
