Transit changes are on the horizon for residents in Jefferson Parish as the local transit authority prepares to assume control of the Kenner Loop from the Regional Transit Authority. Beginning this upcoming Monday, Sept. 22, commuters who rely on the Regional Transit Authority 201 Kenner Loop will witness the transition as new buses and signage appear on their usual routes. However, officials have assured that service will experience no interruptions, much to the relief of daily passengers, as per WDSU.
In a move welcomed by many, Jefferson Parish has announced it will be reducing the cost of bus fares across its network. Starting Sunday, the base fare will be lowered from $1.50 to $1.25, and the monthly pass, which was previously $60, will now be available for $45. The adjustment brings the transit fares in line with those set by RTA, offering a harmonized fare structure throughout. A new bus stop will also be included on the Kenner Loop route, specifically at the Social Security office situated at 1616 Joe Yenni Blvd. NOLA.com reported the fare changes and the addition of the new stop.
The incorporation of the new stop into the Kenner Loop is not simply a matter of convenience, but a reflection of Jefferson Parish's commitment to accessibility and community service. Starting Sunday as well, the expanded service will include a route detour from the Treasure Chest Casino to the Social Security Office. The promise is that regular service continues seamlessly, with the only noticeable change being the presence of Jefferson Parish Transit's E201 Kenner Loop branding on buses and stop signs. WDSU News provided details on the slight route adjustment.
This strategic move represents Jefferson Parish Transit's broader efforts to upgrade and streamline public transportation options across its jurisdiction. The Parish's official government communications have emphasized that their operations will remain consistent with current schedules, save for the addition of the aforementioned bus stop, according to the post from Jefferson Parish Government's X account.
