Authorities in Bexar County have made an arrest in the case of a deadly shooting that occurred at an illicit gathering earlier this year. Twenty-year-old Jonathan Arriola is facing charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection to a fatal incident at a Southwest Bexar County party back in March. KSAT reports that Sheriff Javier Salazar announced the arrest at a news briefing yesterday, noting that the suspect could also face additional charges pending investigation.

The March 9 shooting transpired after a dispute at a so-called "takeover party"—a gathering held inside an old building formerly occupied by the Knights of Columbus. Following a disturbance that resulted in the ejection from the event, Arriola, along with at least four others, fled the scene in a vehicle, upon which, Salazar said, Arriola discharged multiple rounds from a converted pistol – capable of automatic fire – at the building. The shooting claimed the life of 21-year-old Desirae Rivera, who passed after suffering a gunshot wound to the head, as confirmed by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office. Another male victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to KENS5.

Investigations into the shooting analyzed evidence including text messages, camera footage, and tips from the public, leading to the identification of Arriola as the gunman. "I think he absolutely knew he was going to take someone's life," Sheriff Salazar told KENS5. Salazar indicated that the nature of the evidence pointed towards premeditated actions on Arriola's part.

The suspect was arrested while working a construction job at the SpaceX site in Brownsville, as discussed by Salazar, without further incident. Despite the arrest, Salazar has noted that the Bexar County Sheriff's Office believes there may be more individuals connected to this case, and additional charges could be forthcoming for those involved.
