Firefighters from the Knoxville Fire Department demonstrated their dedication beyond battling blazes yesterday when they took on a rather different mission, dubbed "Operation Kitty Saver." According to reports by WVLT, the local heroes responded to a distress call from World's Fair Park where a kitten had found itself ensnared within the confines of a storm drain.
The trapped feline apparently caused a "traffic jam," prompting the fire department's A shift crew to carefully extract the kitten from its precarious situation. The crew delved into the drain and emerged victorious with the unharmed kitten ahead of the Tennessee Vols' second home game. As expressed on X by the Knoxville Fire Department, "Now back to the tailgate and Go Vols!" indicating that the crew were able to swiftly return to their pre-game festivities after the successful rescue operation.
It may be game day, but the A Shift had to perform Operation Kitty Saver at WFP first. This feline got into a little jam, so HQ A shift sprang into action to help. Now back to the tailgate and Go Vols! pic.twitter.com/qEPuzI38Sf

In a statement obtained by WATE, the Knoxville Fire Department shared images of the two A shift crew members who worked diligently to retrieve the tiny black kitten and showed it some "well deserved affection." The images depict a moment of tender care offered by the firefighters, underscoring their commitment to all living beings in need of help, regardless of size.
Additionally, a report from WBIR detailed how the fire department's A shift was on "kitty patrol" when they heard a young cat yelping from the drain. Their timely response not only underscored their readiness to respond to all manners of emergencies, but it also demonstrated a sense of community spirit, with KFD stating, "It may be game day, but the A Shift had to perform Operation Kitty Saver at WFP first. This feline got into a little jam, so HQA shift sprang into action to help."
