A McDonald's restaurant on Western Avenue in Knoxville was the scene of a fire set intentionally, according to the Knoxville Fire Department, with a suspect now facing charges related to the incident. Firefighters were called to the location at approximately 3:18 a.m. on Saturday after reports of smoke, and upon arrival, they discovered a fire within a wall at the front of the establishment, as per WVLT.
Subsequent investigation by the Knoxville Fire Department identified the individual responsible for the arson as Dustin Arwood Jr., 29. Earlier in the evening, Arwood had reportedly been asked to leave the property, only to return later. A brief altercation ensued, leading to his arrest, as reported by WATE. The charges filed against Arwood include aggravated arson, resisting arrest, and criminal trespassing. Facing multiple allegations, Arwood is currently being held at the Knox County Detention Facility.
The fire was reportedly contained to one area of the restaurant, which remained open following the incident. The Knoxville Fire Department's Facebook page made note of this, assuring the public that despite the unfortunate event, the establishment continued with its business operations.
While Arwood returned to the McDonald's amid the ongoing investigation, it was there he was identified by an investigator. The struggle leading to his apprehension was brief—Knoxville Police and Fire Investigation Unit personnel were promptly involved in his capture. The details surrounding Arwood's detention were outlined on social media by the Fire Department, and follow-ups are expected as the legal process continues.
