A fatal collision on Collier Road in Powell has claimed at least one life, with a vehicle forcefully coming to a halt against a pole. The accident, reported by the Knoxville County Sheriff's Office (KCSO), compelled authorities to shut down the roadway, anticipated to remain inaccessible to commuters until about 2 p.m. today, according to KCSO Communications Director Kimberly Glenn.
The necessity to scrupulously investigate the scene has brought the KCSO's Reconstruction Unit to undertake a careful analysis of the wreck. As per the authorities' last update, Rural Metro Fire responded to the emergency posthaste and has been operating at the crash site. In their latest communication, KCSO has advised the public to steer clear from the area to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
As the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the mishap continues, details about the number of individuals affected and their conditions have not been disclosed. WATE reported that the crash was significant enough to spur a statement from Rural Metro about a "serious crash" on Collier Road at 10:49 a.m. on the date of the incident.
Meanwhile, the local community has been urged to seek alternate routes to avoid contributing to potential gridlock and to finally allow emergency personnel space to thoroughly conduct their operations. WVLT echoed the sheriff's office requests and further stated that the road closure would extend well into the early afternoon hours while the scene was being cleared.
As the investigation unfolds, updates are expected to be shared with the public. For now, KCSO continues to withhold further details pertaining to the identity of the deceased or the cause of the crash until next of kin have been notified and a clearer picture of the events has emerged. Commuters are to remain informed on the latest traffic advisories and encouraged to respect the road closures. Officials have not said how many fatalities resulted from the crash, as reported by WBIR.
