
A Campbell County man, 76-year-old Jessie "Little Bill" Comer, has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault after a confrontation with a neighbor led to a shooting with a pellet gun. The Campbell County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies responded to the incident at Chapman Crest Road in LaFollette on Thursday. The deputies arrived to find the victim, who had been shot in the lower abdomen with a BB or pellet gun. WBIR notes that Comer was taken into custody following an extensive search through the night.
According to an account by the victim to deputies, the altercation escalated from a verbal dispute and resulted in Comer, known locally as "Little Bill," inflicting non-life-threatening injuries. After the incident, the victim was quickly transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center via LifeStar as reported by the WVLT. While at the scene, deputies collected evidence and initiated their hunt for the suspect.
It was the following morning at around 9:30 A.M. when authorities located and apprehended Comer. He has since been detained in the Campbell County Jail. The Sheriff's Office has shared the details of the arrest on their Facebook page, underscoring the severity of the confrontation that led to Comer's apprehension. The post detailed that after a call dispatched deputies to the location, a helipad-bound ambulance transferred the victim to the medical center for treatment. The Sheriff's Office confirmed the arrest and the charge of aggravated assault against Comer.
