As the sun casts its warm glow over the neatly trimmed grass of Lake Arlington Golf Course, the city's Parks and Recreation Department has something to swing about. Celebrating a centennial is no small feat, and this recreational cornerstone is not just another patch of green in Arlington. The department took to Facebook last Friday, dishing out a #FunFactFriday to mark a significant milestone. According to their post, Lake Arlington Golf Course has been serving the community for over six decades since its inception in 1963, courtesy of designer Ralph Plummer.
Merging the old with the new, the golf course went under the knife in 2008, executing a redesign that has since enhanced the rolling fairways and putting greens on this sprawling 185-acre landscape. Although changes were made, the essence of Plummer's original vision is still very much in play. "Lake Arlington Golf Course, designed by Ralph Plummer, opened over 60 years ago in 1963 as Arlington's second municipal golf course", the Arlington Parks and Recreation reminisced, spotlighting the journey from then to now.
Located within a stone's throw from the shimmering waters of Lake Arlington, the course has always been more than a series of holes dotted with flags. It stands as a testament to the evolving community engagement and commitment to recreational spaces across the city. With #APRD100 and #NaturallyFun leading the charge, Arlington's Parks and Recreation Department isn't shy about lauding its achievements or the tangible connection between green spaces and quality of life.
