Autumn in Las Cruces heralds the return of Pumpkin Palooza, an annual celebration hosted by the Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department. This family-friendly event is slated for Oct. 5 at the community-favorite Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center. Mark your calendars for a Saturday filled with the quintessential charm of fall from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., without the burden of admission fees.
Those searching for an afternoon bursting with autumnal festivities need look no further. The event will feature an array of fall-themed attractions including arts and crafts, photo booths perfect for capturing the moment, and a musical backdrop fit for the season. But the fun doesn’t stop there, a pie-eating contest for those with an insatiable sweet tooth, and a costume contest, will cater to both two-legged attendees and their four-legged companions. Cap off the revelry with a hayride encircling the park, a simple joy that never grows old.
According to the City of Las Cruces, the festivity schedule is packed with contests tailor-made for every age and species. At 3:30 p.m., pets will take the stage, adorned in festive attire, for the Pet Costume Contest. Children will have their turns to flaunt their costumes starting with ages 1-4 at 4 p.m., followed by the 5-8 age group at 4:30 p.m., and concluding with ages 9 and up at 5 p.m.
The pie-eating contest promises to draw competitive crowds, with the adults’ match set at 5:30 p.m. The youth will have their turn at the table with ages 5-8 going at it at 5:45 p.m., and ages 9 and up following suit at 5:50 p.m. Whether you're a spectator or a contender, this timeless challenge is a treat for all involved.
