Early Tuesday morning, a severe accident rocked the I-40 corridor near downtown Nashville. Shondarrius Cook, a 32-year-old local resident, sustained critical injuries following a roll over car accident. According to Nashville officials, Cook was driving his Toyota Camry at a high speed when he lost control while trying to change lanes.
The incident occurred where the eastbound lanes of I-24 and I-40 converge. Cook's vehicle smashed through the metal guardrail, went airborne, and landed inverted on the I-40 West's shoulder. Authorities reported that Cook, who wasn't wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, managed to exit his vehicle and ran across the traffic lanes before leaping from the bridge onto a ledge and subsequently to the sidewalk below. Despite the harrowing sequence of events, there was no indication that Cook was impaired during the incident.
Rescue personnel responded quickly to the scene. Cook was found on Hermitage Avenue and promptly transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where his condition was deemed life-threatening.
