A Logan man faces multiple charges after a woman purportedly kidnapped by him escaped his vehicle and sought help. Christopher Mark Derring, 46, has been indicted on charges including kidnapping, aggravated assault, and driving with a controlled substance, as reported by ABC4. The indictment includes one count of the first-degree felony of forcible sodomy and second-degree felony kidnapping.

The charges stemmed from a grave episode where the woman, bearing signs of an assault, managed to flag down a deputy in Logan Canyon. She recounted an ordeal lasting multiple days, which, after trying to get the deputy's attention, included difficulty staying awake and giving brief answers, Deputy Ricks said, as obtained by KSLTV. Evidence of the struggle found in Derring's apartment after a police search included blood-stained bed linen and a flashlight matching the victim's description, as told by the police.

According to KSL, Derring allegedly threatened the woman with false imprisonment or abandonment in Idaho, conflicting with her request to be released there. Post arrest, when Derring requested a lawyer, police ceased their questioning.

Upon executing the search warrant at Derring's residence, detectives discovered troubling physical evidence. Alongside blood stains, they reported finding a broken towel rack in the bathroom with a white towel next to the toilet bloodied, presumably to stanch a wound. Hair residue and scissors were found in the bathroom, corroborating the victim's account of having her hair cut forcefully. Derring, identified as being on parole for drug offenses, tested positive for substances including methamphetamine and fentanyl, further complicating his legal situation.
