Metropolitan Police Department officials have reported the arrest of a man following an incident involving a knife at a local convenience store. According to the official MPD news release, the confrontation took place yesterday, near 11th Street, Northwest.

The altercation began when the suspect, later identified as 32-year-old James Elijah Lane from Northwest, DC, attempted to leave the store with items he did not pay for. Upon being confronted by store employees, a struggle ensued. It is during this struggle that Lane was reported to have brandished a knife, ultimately assaulting the employees. Police officers responded to the scene around 5:00 p.m. and were able to quickly apprehend Lane. A knife was recovered from the suspect at the time of the arrest.

One victim sustained minor injuries during the incident and was treated on the scene. Lane now faces charges for Assault with a Knife and Resisting Arrest.
