Authorities have apprehended a suspect tied to a violent carjacking attempt that transpired outside a Zaxby's restaurant in Cordova, with the arrest unfolding in Bolivar, Tennessee. Phedoris Thompson, Jr., a 22-year-old male, is the individual taken into custody after detectives from Shelby County—aided by officers from the Hardeman County Sheriff's Office and Bolivar Police Department—executed a search warrant in the 1600 block of Pleasant Creek Lane, according to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office post on X.
The incident, which left a restaurant manager wounded from gunfire, occurred late on July 7 after the victim had remotely started his vehicle, a Dodge Challenger, in the Zaxby's parking lot located at 1180 N. Houston Levee at Macon and sustained gunshot injuries in what appears to be an attempt on his life and property. The victim managed to seek help at a bar across the street, where belts were used by first responders to apply tourniquets to his legs, a technique often seen in the direst of emergencies, as reported by News Channel 3.
Thompson faces serious charges including Criminal Attempt 1st Degree Murder, Attempted Carjacking, Aggravated Assault—Acting in Concert, and Employing a Firearm with the Intent to Commit a Felony, with the additional weight of pending felony and weapon charges held by the Bolivar Police Department, as outlined in coverage by Action News 5.
