Yesterday afternoon, a man was shot during an altercation in the parking lot of a Burger King on the Northeast Side of San Antonio. KSAT reports that the incident, which occurred near the 4600 block of Rittiman Road not far from Interstate 35, began as an argument between two individuals in separate vehicles. A third person then arrived in another vehicle and discharged a firearm, injuring the victim.
According to authorities, the suspect fled the scene on foot only to quickly get picked up by a different car. The police arrived shortly before 2:30 p.m., where they found five shell casings and the victim, who suffered a wound near the groin area. The police are actively searching for the suspect, who remains at large. The victim was swiftly taken to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. As of now, there is no clear connection to a fatal shooting that happened just days earlier at a nearby Taco Cabana.
Marcus Walker, a local resident, expressed his dismay, telling KSAT, “It’s getting out of hand, man, it’s getting ridiculous, like this today in broad daylight? There could have been kids out here.” This sentiment underscores the shock felt by the community after the daylight shooting in an area frequented by families.
In a separate account, Here's San Antonio shared that this recent violence is part of a worrying trend. A second shooting had occurred at a Taco Cabana next door just days before, leaving a 52-year-old man, Carlos Harlan Moore, dead. Although the investigations to conclusively link the two incidents are ongoing, the proximity of the violent acts is enough to have to notably increase concern among residents.
The San Antonio Police Department urges anyone with information to step forward. They have put forth a description of the alleged shooter's vehicle, a small, two-door white sedan, and ask that witnesses or those with knowledge about either case contact local law enforcement. In the meantime, the community is grappling with the implications of public safety and the need for heightened vigilance in the area.
