An attempted robbery early Tuesday in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood resulted in a 53-year-old man being shot as he tried to escape from two armed assailants. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, at approximately 1:35 a.m., the man was entering his vehicle on the 7000 block of South South Shore Drive when he was approached by two gunmen.
As reported by the FOX 32 Chicago, in an effort to evade the robbery, the victim attempted to drive away, which prompted one of the gunmen to open fire, hitting him in the upper left shoulder. Despite the injury, he was able to drive himself to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was then listed in good condition.
The incident adds to the tally of violent crimes in an area all too familiar with the echoes of gunshots and the quiet desperation that follows. While the city sleeps, the specter of violence haunts the wakeful, trailing them like an omnipresent shadow.
As of now, authorities have not made any arrests in relation to the shooting. Area One detectives are actively investigating the particulars of the case.
