The City of Maricopa is looking to bring its Zoning Code into the present day. A series of proposed amendments are on the table, aimed at updating the existing code to better align with modern development trends and to address any identified shortcomings. These changes are to be reviewed by the city's decision-makers, with the possibility of the Maricopa City Council either giving the green light or slamming the brakes on the proposed updates.
Residents of Maricopa have a chance to chime in on the proposed changes. The Planning & Zoning Division is opening the floor to community members for their comments and concerns. Specifically, amendments are suggested for Section 18 of the Zoning Ordinance that covers a variety of topics, including animal keeping, charitable donations, and the reviews process for applications. The details on these amendments can be peered over in the attachments provided on the city's website. In a public notice posted on September 4th, interested parties can find the documents here.
Two public hearings are in the pipeline, where voices can be aired in a formal setting. The Planning & Zoning Commission is first up with a public hearing scheduled for October 14 at 6:00 PM. Following that, the City Council will have their ears open during a hearing set for November 19, also at 6:00 PM. Both meetings are to be held in the Council Chambers at City Hall, situated at 39700 W. Civic Center Plaza. Written comments are also welcome and can be submitted prior to or at the meeting itself.
For those inclined to learn more or to submit their two cents, the city has directed inquiries and commentary to LaRee Mason, the case planner on this project. Mason can be reached by phone at 520-316-6928, or via email at [email protected], with the subject line "Text Amendment."
