For those looking to enjoy some active recreation during the upcoming school break, the Meerscheidt Recreation Center has just announced some revisions to its fall schedule. The Las Cruces spot located at 1600 E. Hadley Ave. will be adjusting its adult sports sessions to align with the Las Cruces Public Schools' fall break, as they prepare to briefly wind down some of their regular offerings from Monday, Sept. 23, through Saturday, Oct. 5.
With local schools shutting down for a well-needed rest, the center has decided to modify its usual hustle to accommodate the break-in routine. Adult basketball and pickleball players can still get their game on but should be ready to quickly adapt to the reduced capacity on these court times. For those seeking to rhythmically move their morning away, Zumba Gold will be available twice a week. Meanwhile, cornhole enthusiasts will find their niche unaffected, and adaptive sports participants won't have to miss out on their dedicated stretches of play either. However, volleyball and some pickleball sessions will have to take a temporary timeout, as noted by the City of Las Cruces.
Here is the lowdown on what the Meerscheidt Recreation Center schedule will look like during the break: basketball will dribble on through at two points in the week, Zumba Gold will keep the weekday mornings lively, and pickleball sessions, although pared down, will persist for those who are keen. Cornhole tosses up no changes, remaining a steadfast fixture on the timetable, and adaptive sports will continue to offer accessible athletic engagement without interruption. However, all activities on Saturday, Oct. 5, will take a backseat to the fall respite.
For ease of planning, here's the breakdown of the altered sports schedule: Adult basketball will shoot hoops early twice a week, and golden age Zumba will shimmy in the mornings after. The pickleball courts will be open but not as plentiful; meaning you might have to arrive early to guarantee a spot. Cornhole players are set to continue tossing bags unfettered, while adaptive sports jostle for neither time nor space. But remember, come the first Saturday of October, the entire center will take a breather, suspending all sessions. Mark your calendars, for the regular rhythm of recreation is slated to bounce back into full swing beginning Monday, Oct. 7.
