The Memphis police have released surveillance footage in the search for two suspects involved in a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a construction worker on Interstate 55. The tragic incident, occurring last week in West Memphis, resulted in the death of Justin Delgado, a 36-year-old man from Iola, Texas, as announced by the Crittenden County coroner.
According to Action News 5, the suspects were seen on footage at a convenience store, allegedly after having stolen a Corvette on Patton Street in Memphis, which was later involved in the fatal crash. The theft occurred approximately less than two hours before the incident, and a Cadillac CTS was also reported stolen from the same location.
The Memphis Police Department (MPD), established in 1827, responded to the auto theft report on September 18 at 8:34 p.m. The victim reported a stolen 2020 maroon Chevrolet Corvette, which was later identified as the vehicle involved in the deadly pursuit. Per the MPD's statement on Facebook, no arrests have currently been made, and the investigation remains active. The public is encouraged to provide information that could help resolve the case with assurances of anonymity and the potential for a cash reward from Crime Stoppers.
A further report by FOX13 Memphis indicates the suspects' photographs were released by MPD. The Arkansas State Police (ASP) stated that officers had attempted to stop the maroon Corvette on the night of the incident, but the vehicle quickly sped away, eventually careening into the construction zone where Delgado was fatally struck. The Corvette was later found engulfed in flames by MPD. The MPD has implored anyone with knowledge of the suspected individuals to contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-2274.
