The weather pattern in Miami, Florida, continues to be characterized by scattered storms and heavy moisture. As reported today by the National Weather Service, the area will experience mostly cloudy skies with showers and thunderstorms likely before 1pm, and a chance of 60% for precipitation. The daytime high is expected to reach 89 degrees with heat index values soaring as high as 103 due to the southeast wind motion at 6 to 10 mph.
Commencing the day in the low 80s, isolated showers are already present, set to increase in number throughout the day. Despite the increased cloud cover, the region will still witness breaks in the weather, with the high temperatures nearing 90 degrees and the heat index values nudging the triple digits, narrowly missing the criteria for a heat alert as reported by NBC Miami.
A slight shift in weather patterns is anticipated for tomorrow as drier conditions are expected to reduce the rain chances. The scattered storms are more likely to become isolated, but this shift brings about its own set of complications—longer periods of humidity and heat, which could lead to advisories by the end of the week.
High temperatures are projected to edge back into the low 90s towards the weekend. Keeping an eye on the tropics, forecasters are monitoring two areas of interest. A tropical wave in the Caribbean shows no signs of developing in the near term; however, there's a medium chance for it to form into a tropical depression as it moves towards the southwestern Gulf of Mexico later in the week. Another tropical wave off the coast of Africa, currently resulting in disorganized storms, stands a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression in the next few days but is not expected to move into the Caribbean and instead, is predicted to track west-northwestward or northwestward over the eastern Atlantic, according to NBC Miami.
The National Weather Service also provides an outlook for the rest of the week: a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 80. Wednesday will maintain a 50% chance of rain with partly sunny conditions and highs near 90, with heat index values as high as 107. A gradual decrease in precipitation probability and increase in sunnier skies is expected as the week progresses.
