A Miami-Dade substitute teacher has been taken into custody following a year-long investigation on charges of possession of child pornography. Homestead Police reported that George Rafols, 37, had uploaded a file containing child pornography in October of the previous year. Rafols was a substitute teacher employed by Miami-Dade County Public Schools, teaching at Air Base K-8 Center, as per Homestead Police.
According to NBC Miami, Rafols was booked into jail Wednesday on charges that include promoting sexual performance by a child. Police say that he is cooperating with the investigators. RAFOLS's employment status with Miami-Dade County Public Schools has been terminated in light of these allegations, ensuring he can no longer serve in a substitute teaching capacity within the district.
Information from the Homestead Police disclosed that an initial cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was what led to the launch of the investigation. Detectives have been following this lead nearly a year before they arrested Rafols, which points to a meticulous and extensive inquiry into these serious charges.
In a statement obtained by WSVN, a spokesperson for Miami-Dade County Public Schools stated, "Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is profoundly troubled by the concerning allegations made against this individual, leading to his arrest." The statement went on to emphasize the district's dedication to maintain a safe environment for students and employees alike.
An additional report from Local 10 confirmed that the Homestead Police Department's investigation was aided by the Miami-Dade Schools Police, resulting in Rafols' arrest without incident. The connection between Rafols and the Miami-Dade Public Schools system as a substitute teacher has brought a heightened level of concern from the community and the authorities involved.
