A 17-year-old Miami girl had a stroke of luck Friday morning when a construction worker used a forklift to lift an SUV off her after she was struck while riding her electric scooter. The incident occurred around 7 a.m. near Northwest Miami Court and 14th Street, as reported by WSVN. Laura Auzon was pinned underneath the vehicle until the quick-thinking worker intervened.
After the Miami Police and EMS responded, Auzon was transported to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where, her family indicated, she is in stable condition. The driver responsible for the accident received a ticket for failure to yield, Miami Police Officer Michael Vega explained in a statement obtained by CBS News.
Local resident Keli Delgado, who saw the aftermath, noted that "It’s crazy, man. People need to pay more attention." City officials and public safety advocates are calling for increased awareness and safety measures to prevent such incidents, according to WSVN.
