A tragic incident occurred last Friday morning on the eastbound Interstate-275 exit ramp to Springfield Pike when a man was fatally injured in a collision involving two trucks. Darren Hayes, a 57-year-old man from Miamisburg, was killed in the accident that took place around 10:15 a.m.
According to WLWT, Hayes was outside his sanitation truck, which had been pulled over on the side of the highway, when a semi exiting the interstate struck his parked truck. Hayes was pinned under the right rear tires of his vehicle. The semi's driver was reported to have not been injured in the crash. This collision forced the authorities to temporarily close the ramp for several hours as they addressed the scene.
Additional information obtained by FOX19 indicated that Hayes was standing next to his disabled Kenworth truck, which was off the roadway on the right shoulder, when the Volvo tractor and semi-truck, traveling on the exit ramp, moved onto the emergency shoulder and made impact with Hayes and his truck. Unfortunately, Hayes did not survive the impact.
Springdale fire crews quickly responded to the incident, managing to extricate Hayes from underneath the truck, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Local police have stated that the crash is still under investigation. Meanwhile, Local12 reports that another tractor-trailer came down the ramp and collided with the parked vehicle, resulting in Hayes being knocked down and subsequently becoming trapped.
