Community members and representatives from various emergency services gathered this past Saturday at North Commons Park for the Battle of the Badges, an event characterized by competition, camaraderie, and the smells of a fierce BBQ cook-off. Despite not securing the top slot in the culinary face-off, the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) embraced the spirit of the event, enjoying the opportunity to engage with locals. The MPD extended their congratulations through Facebook, expressing, "We had a great time meeting members of the community!" despite the contest's results.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office took home the trophy this year, leaving the MPD ready to reclaim it next year. The event wasn't just about boasting rights; it also featured a free raffle contest with winners taking home various prizes. Celebrating the success of the event, the MPD thanked all the volunteers and partners whose efforts coalesced into a day of community building and friendly rivalry.
Integral to the event's success were the roles played by the Minneapolis Park Police Department, Minneapolis Fire Department, and the same Sheriff’s Office that bested the BBQ competition.
