A serious accident involving a motorcyclist and a pickup truck was reported on Loop 303 in the west Valley, resulting in a major roadway closure early Monday. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) confirmed that the crash occurred at approximately 2:21 a.m. on the northbound lanes between Northern Parkway and Peoria Avenue.
Details provided by DPS indicate that the motorcyclist, a 36-year-old male, was rear-ended by a pickup truck, leading to the rider being ejected and dragged for nearly three-quarters of a mile to a Peoria off-ramp. The individual suffered life-threatening injuries and remained in the roadway until a citizen intervened. "The critically injured motorcyclist remained in the roadway until a citizen dragged him to a safe location, likely preventing the motorcyclist from being run over," DPS said in a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. The motorcyclist was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 34-year-old woman, was reported to be uninjured. Investigators have ruled out impairment as a factor in the crash, but suspect that fatigue may have played a role, according to details shared by ABC 15. The northbound lanes of Loop 303 were closed at Northern Parkway for a period of time following the incident but have since been reopened.
