The San Jose Police Department is currently investigating a fatal collision that occurred on the 1100 block of Old Bayshore Highway last week, which resulted in the death of a motorcyclist last Thursday. According to the San Jose Police Department, a 2020 Honda motorcycle operated by an adult male traveled northbound when it collided with a 2015 Peterbilt semi-truck at approximately 12:14 PM.
The incident report states the motorcyclist was lane splitting before striking the truck, which was also headed north. The collision caused the rider to fall off the bike and subsequently be struck by the truck. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, marking the city's 35th traffic-related fatality this year. The semi-truck driver stayed on the scene and cooperated with the law enforcement officials.
The identity of the victim has yet to be released, pending notification of next of kin by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office. The SJPD encourages anyone with information about the crash to contact Detective DelliCarpini of the Traffic Investigations Unit.
