
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) is currently actively investigating a fatal shooting that transpired on the night of September 25. The incident, took place in the 1900 block of Leonidas Street, located within the NOPD's Second District. In response to a report of gunfire at approximately 9:53 p.m., police officers arrived at the scene to discover a man who had suffered a gunshot wound. Despite the urgent medical attention, he was declared deceased at the scene by the Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
As per the official NOPD News release, authorities are now working to both identify the individual or individuals responsible and to possibly quickly ascertain a motive for this violent act. The details surrounding the shooting remain scarce, as law enforcement continues to seek out information pertinent to the homicide investigation.
The case has been taken over by the NOPD Homicide Section detectives, who are reportedly in the early stages of examining evidence and canvassing the area for potential witnesses. In line with procedure, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office is tasked with performing an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death and to officially identify the victim. The results of this autopsy and the victim's identity will be announced by the Coroner's Office once finalized.
