New "Rogue X" Sculpture Unveiled at Medford Community Complex, Symbolizing Athletic Spirit and Natural BeautySource: City of Medford

At the Rogue Credit Union Community Complex, Medford has introduced a new public art sculpture known as 'Rogue X,' officially completing its construction project. According to the City of Medford announcement, the reveal occurred yesterday near the complex's entrance at 901 Rossanley Drive.

Standing at 15 feet tall and weighing in at a sizable 680 pounds, the aluminum sculpture was crafted by local artist Melissa Ghiglieri, an alumna of Cascade Christian High School, in collaboration with local high school students guided by Phil Ortega, executive director of LifeArt. The design mirrors the lively spirit of Rogue X's swimming, basketball, and pickleball offerings alongside a nod to Medford's natural splendor on the sculpture's reverse side.

"Rogue X" isn't just about celebrating local athleticism and nature. It's also about stitching the fabric of community engagement tighter. This installation, valued at $94,000, was financially backed by the Medford City Council Community Initiative Fund and additional City funds earmarked for public art endeavors. It encapsulates the city's investment in public spaces that serve as cultural and recreational nerve centers.

The sculpture is a visual buffet of activities housed within the 140,000-square-foot recreation center. Illustrating local flora and fauna on one side illustrates a desire to connect the built and natural environments. According to the City of Medford statement, the piece is an emblem of pride and creativity forged from the bond between area artists, organizations, and the youth.
