San Diego's North Park will soon get a new restaurant, Cocina De Barrio, at 2884 University Avenue, where Saiko Sushi used to be. Opening this October, Cocina De Barrio will offer its popular Oaxaca-inspired Mexican dishes and expand its presence in the city. Sandiegoville reports that this new outpost will offer a diverse menu featuring tlayudas, wand enfrijoladas, sundry moles, and fine mezcal-based cocktails.
Restaurant enthusiasts might already be familiar with Cocina De Barrio's existing locations in Hillcrest, the Midway area of Point Loma, and Encinitas, first established in November 2019 by Executive Chef and co-owner Jose J. Flores alongside Swami's Cafe founder Jaime Osuna. However, Flores will be assuming the sole proprietorship at the North Park branch, nurturing the eatery's legacy, which has garnered an impressive five years of positive customer feedback primarily because of its authentic Mexican brunches and ample beverage selections, as detailed by San Diego Magazine.
Patrons of the upcoming location can anticipate a harmony of tastes and aromas characteristic of the Cocina De Barrio brand, with breakfast delights such as chilaquiles—verde or Rojo—a pick for all, hearty huevos rancheros, sweet churros, and even French toast; drinks are not forgotten with mimosas and margaritas in the mix.
Moreover, with Flores at the helm, the restaurant will uphold its tradition of conviviality through its daily operations, Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., and winding down the week on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., as per San Diego Magazine.
