An Ohio man and woman were arrested on Friday night following a high-speed chase that began with a robbery in Monroe County, Michigan, and ended across state lines in Toledo, Ohio. Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 10:50 p.m. about an unarmed robbery at a Walmart on Telegraph Road. The man, 36, is accused of having stolen over $3,000 in merchandise, according to Audacy's WWJ Newsradio. When confronted by a Walmart employee, the suspect began to assault them before escaping with the goods and entering a silver Ford Edge driven by a 39-year-old woman.
A traffic stop was attempted by Monroe County Sheriff Deputy Trevor Tomkinson nearly half a mile from the Walmart, but the suspects sped away, engaging authorities in a pursuit through multiple townships. As per CBS Detroit, stop-sticks were deployed at the intersection of Telegraph and Sterns Road, deflating the Edge's tires. Nonetheless, the vehicle continued for an additional three miles into Ohio.
The pair's flight came to a halt at the intersection of Telegraph and Detroit Avenue in Toledo, where local law enforcement promptly detained them, as reported by MLive. Both individuals, hailing from Toledo, are currently being held at the Lucas County Jail with "multiple criminal charges," and more charges from Monroe County are expected. No information has been released on the condition of the assaulted Walmart employee, nor on the relationship between the man and woman involved in the robbery and chase.
