Oklahoma City residents have the opportunity to declutter their homes and yards without cost, as the city offers a Free Landfill Day for all OKC residential trash customers tomorrow. According to a City of Oklahoma announcement, citizens can dispose of oversized household items and landscaping debris from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at select landfills.
Participating in the event, the East Oak Landfill, Oklahoma City Landfill, Oklahoma City Waste Disposal, Inc., and the Northeast Landfill, which only accepts construction and demolition materials, will open their gates for the community effort, but make a note residents need to present a photo ID and a current Oklahoma City Utilities bill—no photocopies—to drop off their refuse; they can alternatively show a digital copy of their bill on the My OKC Utilities app.
The annual landfill amnesty day allows residents to dispose of large items that don’t fit in regular bins, promoting environmental cleanliness. Only passenger vehicles, trucks up to one ton, and a single trailer up to 16 feet long per household are allowed. Commercial waste haulers are not permitted.
Residents should keep in mind that not all waste can be left at the landfills during Free Landfill Day; for instance, items like tires, electronics, appliances containing refrigerants, and household hazardous waste such as car batteries and propane tanks are prohibited; a complete list of the rules and restricted items can be found on the City of Oklahoma's website or by calling the Utilities Customer Service line at (405) 297-2833.
