An Oklahoma man died in a crash on the Turner Turnpike in Oklahoma City on Thursday morning, and now the Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. According to FOX 25, the accident occurred around 10:20 a.m., involving a single vehicle, a 2020 Kenworth tractor, that veered off the road and collided with a bridge.
The unfortunate event claimed the life of the tractor's driver, 77-year-old John Culbertson from Yukon, OK, who was pronounced dead at the scene. News 9 reported that the crash took place eastbound near mile marker 136, marking a tragic end to what began as a mundane journey on one of the city's thoroughfares.
Details provided by KOCO included that the semi-trailer operated by Culbertson was entering the Turner Turnpike at the on-ramp near Interstate 35 when the accident happened. While the OHP has verified the identity of the driver and the time of the accident, they are still working to ascertain why the semi-trailer left the roadway and subsequently struck the bridge.
Troopers are currently investigating the events that led to the crash, examining possible factors that may have caused the driver to lose control of the semi-trailer and collide with the structure. However, no further details about the cause of the crash have been released.
